By Craig Perrigo:

This page privides a brief description of the Die Rolling page, and a few hints on how to get the best performance.

When you access the Dice Server you are presented with the following form. (Added instructions and notes are in blue italics.)

Describe this roll:

How many dice would you like to roll?
This section allows you to select the number of die needed for each roll. Don't use this to select the number of total die rolls. For instance, to roll 'to-hit', select one dice.

How many sides are on each die?
Select the number of sides for the die roll

Should anything be added or subtracted from the total roll?
Any additions or subtractions to the die roll should be added here. For instance, d4+1 roll to produce a result range of 2 - 5.

You can drop either the highest or lowest die roll (or both.)

  • Drop the highest roll.
  • Drop the lowest roll.
I imagine this would be used mostly for character generation, where you would roll 4 6-sided die for each attribute and drop the lowest roll. Make sure these are unchecked when you roll. you don't want to drop your highest result when you roll 'to-hit' or your lowest when you roll 'spell success' or 'saving throw'. The 'dropped' roll also shows up in the email surrounded by brackets, so you can't use this to better your odds.

The entire roll can be repeated; how many times?
This is the key section. Use this field to produce multiple rolls of the configuration you selected in the earlier fields. For instance, if you want to roll 6 'to-hit' die rolls, you would select 1 die, 20 sides, no pluses/minuses, 6 repeat rolls.

Using those options produces the following results:
Roll them bones ... your dice are
Roll 1: 13.
Roll 2: 5.
Roll 3: 20.
Roll 4: 15.
Roll 5: 19.
Roll 6: 18.

If you use the first selection box to determine the number of die to roll, the system produces results that look more like you are rolling for massive damage, like a fireball spell. You end up with the following results:
Roll them bones ... your dice are
Roll 1: 13, 5, 20, 15, 19, 18 = 90.
